The Historic Park City Alliance welcomes guests to Main Street in January for live shows at The Egyptian, lectures at the Park City Museum and boutique and gallery events all month long, as well as Sundance Film Festival Jan. 23-Feb. 2.“2025 is off to a busy start with plenty of ways to enjoy Historic Park City,” said Ginger Wicks, executive director of the Historic Park City Alliance. “Sundance always brings a unique energy to town, and our local business community is proud to showcase all that our world-class destination has to offer.”This month’s events in Historic Park City include the following:Secrets of the Greatest Snow on Earth LectureWednesday, Jan. 8, | 5-6 p.m.This lecture given by Jim Steenburgh, University of Utah Atmospheric Sciences Professor Jim Steenburgh (a.k.a. “Professor Powder”), provides an insider’s view of Wasatch weather, exposing the myths, explaining the reality, and revealing how and why Utah’s powder lives up to its reputation. The lecture will be held at the Park City Museum Education and Collections Center located at 2079 Sidewinder Drive.Gwyneth Goes Skiing at The Egyptian TheatreWednesday, Jan. 8-Saturday, Jan. 18This brand new show is a very silly story of justice, betrayal and optometry that makes the audience the jury, asking them to decide who’s guilty and who’s gooped. Back by popular demand after its successful May debut.Locals Only Exhibit at Gallery MARFriday, Jan. 10 | 6-9 p.m.Gallery MAR said it is excited to kick off the new year with Local’s Only, an exhibition showcasing the incredible talent of Utah-based artists. This event highlights the diverse styles and voices of the local creative community, featuring new works from beloved Gallery MAR artists who call Utah home.Ghosts of the Past: Unearthing Utah’s Mining History Through Abandoned MinesWednesday, Jan. 15 | 5-6 p.m.This lecture given by Stuart Burgess is hosted by the Park City Museum and Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History. Dive into the hidden stories of Utah’s mining history and discuss abandoned mines that have long been forgotten. This lecture will shed light on the rich heritage of Utah’s mining industry, offering insights gained from firsthand underground explorations of these historical sites. The lecture will be held at the Park City Museum Education and Collections Center located at 2079 Sidewinder Drive.Katherin Heigl and Josh Kelley: Mountain Love StoryWednesday, Jan. 22This exhibition opens on Jan. 22 and runs for three weeks, coinciding with the Sundance Film Festival.The exhibition sales will all benefit the Heigl family’s nonprofit, the Jason Debus Foundation. Founded in 2008 by Nancy and Katherine Heigl, the foundation serves to end animal cruelty and abuse. It also celebrates the compassion, kindness and memory of their beloved son and brother, Jason.Sundance Film FestivalJan. 23-Feb.2Hours of operation may vary among Historic Park City businesses during the festival.
