BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Say hello to 2025 with a clean garage and closet areas. Say goodbye to that old microwave you don't know what to do with. The City of Bakersfield is hosting a pop-up large item drop-off event on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Bakersfield Municipal Airport at 2000 S. Union Ave. Newsom says construction on High Speed Rail portion through Bakersfield to begin by spring Residents can drop-off large, bulky, space-taking items from their homes. Organizers are accepting items like furniture, mattresses, box springs, electronics like TVs, computers, computer monitors, water heaters and barbeque grills without a propane tank. The city asks residents to not take propane tanks, construction debris, materials, items that contain refrigerant, hazardous materials or waste or items weighing more than 300 pounds. Events like these have collected thousands of pounds of household waste, city officials say.
