MEMPHIS, Tenn. — If you haven't already checked your car for the colder temperatures, car experts say you need to do it soon.  Temperatures all week long will remain well below normal with highs in the lower to mid-30s and lows in the lower to mid-20s. A winter storm with snow is likely for Thursday night-Friday morning. We stopped by Block Automotive on Cordova Park Road to get tips on how you can prepare your car for a snow storm.  “The best way to do that is just to check reservoirs on the car. Most important is antifreeze and oil," Block said. “Once everything dips into the twenties, everything starts leaking.”  Block says water should never be in your washer fluid or radiator in the wintertime. “It can freeze and burst those reservoirs really quick, especially since we are in the twenties," he said. Winter storm likely; potentially snowy day Friday The tire pressure light you have been ignoring for months should be checked, too. “Air them up two to three pounds more this time of year because in the cold all that draws back," he said. Hotter temperatures can take a toll on your battery. Unfortunately, you won’t recognize it until the colder temperatures.  "A lot of the part stores, Auto Zone, will do a free battery check on it and typically this time of year, the cheapest battery is not your best option," he said. Lastly, Block said it's important to let your car warm up a little before you go. “It’s better for them if you don't just get in them and go," he said. “Two to three minutes is enough.” Now, you are ready to roll.  Check the latest forecasts from WREG Weather Block went on to say you should always prepare for the worst. Keep warm items, a phone charger, and snacks in the car in case you have to wait for a tow truck.
