Arctic air settles in ahead of another late week snow chance
Jan 07, 2025
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – As much of the area is snowed in on this Tuesday, we are tracking cold temperatures through the rest of the weekend another snow chance Friday into Saturday. This one is likely to bring accumulating snow for most of the area, with southern Kentucky getting into the snow this time.
Cold Mid-Week
Temperatures on Tuesday won’t be going anywhere, staying in the low-to-mid 20s. Any breeze at all today will make it feel like the teens. Overnight will be another cold one with temperatures falling into the teens across southern and southeastern Kentucky, with parts of north-central Kentucky falling close to the single digits. Here in Lexington will will split the difference. Wednesday will be a few degrees colder than Tuesday with a couple light snow showers possible. A coating of snow will be possible across southeast Kentucky.
Frigid Wednesday Night-Thursday Morning
Our coldest night of the week will likely be Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Overnight lows will fall well into the single digits for areas with snow on the ground. If skies remain clear enough and the winds remain light enough, a few areas will fall below zero. This could be dangerous cold for those without power and those that are more sensitive to the bitter cold. Check on your friends and neighbors to make sure they have a way to stay warm.
Friday into Saturday Snowfall
Snow chances continue to increase for Friday into Saturday. A strong winter storm will be sweeps across the deep south, dropping heavy snow for some locations that rarely see that chance. Locally, the best chance of accumulating snow will be across southern Kentucky and that is where we could see heavy snow. Snow is also in the forecast for Lexington and surrounding areas, though the details still remain a bit uncertain. Still, at-least some accumulation for all of the ABC 36 viewing area is likely at this time.
