Sexual assault suspect in Wisconsin hurt after being shot during a struggle with police

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) - Authorities in Wisconsin say a suspect wanted for the sexual assault of a child is hurt after being shot Monday night following a struggle with police.
According to a release from the Milwaukee Police Department, officers were on the 2500 block of South 7th Street at 9:37 p.m. looking for a suspect wanted for sexual assault of a child and child enticement.
Police say they were informed that the 19-year-old suspect was in a nearby residence and were able to make contact with the man.
While communicating with the suspect, the 19-year-old allegedly pulled out a firearm and a struggle over the firearm ensued between the suspect and two officers.

During the struggle, one officer reportedly fired his own gun, injuring the suspect who was then arrested and taken to a local hospital with non-fatal injuries.
Officials say the suspect's firearm was recovered and criminal charges are being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
The officer who shot the suspect, a 35-year-old man with eight years of service, was placed on administrative duty per agency policy.
No other information is available at this time and the Milwaukee Police Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate the incident.
