FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Detectives with the Fresno Police Department are searching for armed burglary suspects who targeted a tobacco warehouse in East-Central Fresno. The burglary happened on Monday at around 4 a.m. on Pontiac Way near Chestnut and Ann avenues. According to Fresno Police Sgt. Diane Vega, the alleged thieves set off a security system. "The Fresno Police Department responded to an alarm call," she said. "Officers responded and arrived at the location. They confirmed that there had been a burglary." Vega said the burglars used two cars to break a gate outside the warehouse, granting them access into the building. "Officers were able to review surveillance video on site, and they were able to see that there was a white Lexus and a Dodge Charger that arrived on scene occupied with multiple subjects. They rammed the fence at the location," Vega said.  Once inside, officials said the thieves took multiple boxes. Vega said detectives are still trying to determine the cost of everything that was stolen. "At this point, we're trying to determine exactly what was stolen, but I do believe that at least some of the property was cigarettes, cigarette boxes," she said. Police believe multiple people with weapons were involved in the burglary.  "There were at least several subjects that we believe were armed with firearms," Vega said. "I do believe that their faces were covered." An investigation is underway to find those responsible. "Our detectives are working diligently, and we will find these people and hold them accountable," Vega said. "With these types of cases, people usually, especially when there's multiple people like this involved, they don't stay quiet. [We] encourage anybody that might, even if they're not involved, they hear someone talking about this type of crime that they can call the police department."
