SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KRON) -- As the San Francisco 49ers packed up their lockers at Levi's Stadium on Monday, players told reporters about how they will move forward into next season. Tight end George Kittle summed up the season as "disappointing." San Francisco (6-11) lost seven of its last eight games, with the final blow falling to the Arizona Cardinals Sunday. Just one year after making it to the Super Bowl, San Francisco was shut out from the playoffs. Kittle said, "Our goals were higher, and we didn't achieve any of those. So that's disappointing. The team dealt with a lot, a ton of off-the-field things. We're not happy about it." Star running back Christian McCaffrey said he's going to train hard in the offseason and take things "one day at a time." McCaffrey was sidelined for most of the season with Achilles tendinitis and knee injuries. "You get humbled quick," said McCaffrey, who was the 2023 offensive player of the year. Quarterback Brock Purdy said, "I'm probably the hardest critic on myself in terms of wanting to play at a high level, and chasing greatness, and being the best version of myself. I'm very hard on myself. I have faith and trust that we have the guys in this locker room, right now, that have what it takes to win and turn this thing around." Quarterback Joshua Dobbs uses start for 49ers as ‘audition’ "More than anything, how you handle the tough times, the losses, the moments of wanting it and not getting it, that makes you who you are. You can learn from it and grow from it," Purdy said.
