(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs has prepped its equipment and crews are ready to begin clearing roads as a storm rolls into Southern Colorado Monday night into Tuesday, Jan. 6-7. According to the City, a low-pressure system is building in the Gulf of California, and a high pushing south from Canada, across the Rocky Mountains. The interaction from these two will produce northerly to easterly winds, giving Eastern Colorado a bit more moisture for some. A Winter Weather advisory has been issued for El Paso County from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday morning update: Snow develops tonight Chances for snow increase after sunset Monday, with snow accumulating Monday evening and into Tuesday morning, making the Tuesday morning commute tricky. The City said not much melting is expected, so snow will accumulate on paved surfaces. Wet pavement overnight Monday is expected to freeze due to well below-freezing temperatures, and snow showers will begin to dissipate from north to south during the late morning and afternoon. Total accumulation for northern Colorado Springs is between 3 and 6 inches and for central/south Colorado Springs, 2.5-5.5 inches. The City said all of its ice and snow equipment is hooked up and ready to respond. Snow patrol personnel will be out on the roads monitoring conditions, and morning crews will report at midnight.
