MINOT, ND (KXNET) — Last week, on December 31, a Silver Alert was issued for 84-year-old Minot woman Faye Schaefer. The alert was cancelled after Schaefer was safely located on January 1. She was found by two young men, who will receive certificates for their heroic actions. According to the Ward County Sheriff's Department, the Minot Police Department received several tips on possible sightings that were followed up on throughout the night of Dec. 31 and into Jan. 1, 2025.  The morning of Jan. 1, two Berthold area teens were snowmobiling a few miles north of Berthold when they noticed a car on 128th Ave NW about 1-2 miles east of Highway 28.  The car was stuck in snow, out of gas, and had a door open.  When they got to the car, they found Schaefer inside and extremely cold.  The young men contacted a parent, who in turn called 911.  The parent then went to the car to help care for the woman. Berthold Ambulance responded to the location and transported Schaefer to Trinity in Minot. Minot Police Chief John Klug update The remote location of the car away from a main road, and the extremely low temperature and windchills, combined to create a very dangerous situation. The Sheriff's Department said that due to the quick thinking and direct actions of the young men, the woman was able to survive the incident.  The two young men will be honored at a Ward County Sheriff's Department ceremony this Wednesday, January 8, at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony will be at the Ward County Administrative Building, where the men will receive certificates for their efforts.
