StormTracker 8: One more band of snow this evening
Jan 06, 2025
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- We have one more band of light snow to cross the area tonight before we put this storm rest. This will pass through the area in the early part of the evening hours. Most of the snow associated with this looks to be headed for the northern half of the state. About 1-1.5 inches of additional snow could be expected before it ends in the metro area. Higher amounts of 2’' to 4” of snow will be possible once you go past Fredericksburg to Washington.
Overnight the skies will clear, and the winds will pick up a little bit. Our overnight lows are going to fall to around 20 degrees. Anything that looks to be wet on the ground tomorrow will most likely be icy. That’s going to be the story for the next few mornings in the area.
Tuesday will have sunshine for us and highs in the lower to middle 30s.
Since it will be breezy, the wind chill will make it feel colder over the region.
Wednesday-Friday is more of the same over us. Chilly mornings with lows in the single digits possible in rural area and about 9-13 in the city. Highs will only reach into the lower to middle 30s.
Friday, the skies will turn partly cloudy ahead of the next weather system that may be lining up to affect us. Just like the storm we have dealt with, there is no physical storm as of yet. It is forecast to form along the Gulf Coast on Thursday.
Based on what is expected to happen, this system will come across the southeast and head for the east coast. Then the question is if it zips off into the Atlantic (less weather for us) or turns up the coast (bad weather for us).
If the “bad” case for us, this would spread sleet and freezing rain up here for Saturday morning into the afternoon, before ending as some light rain.
We are 5 days out, so expect things to change.
Following that, the cold air remains locked in over much of the east through next week.
