SALINA, Kan. (KSNW) - Drivers in Kansas were forced to halt their travel on Sunday and find someplace to stay for the night after a blizzard shut down Interstate 70 and several state highways.
KSN News talked to residents from Texas, California, and Missouri staying the night.
John McDonald from Houston, Texas, was one of those stranded.
"If you don't have to be out on the roads don't be," he said.
Interstates, highways closed in Kansas due to blizzard
"I've never experienced nothing like this before. I'm from California. I'm a beginner at this," Justin Hernandez, a California resident, said.
What should have been a simple stop turned into an extended stay.
"The freeway was closed, and they said try and get a hotel. It's only going to get worse from here," Hernandez added.
Many were heading home from the holidays.
"Just one of those holiday things, going out to meet family and then heading back home 'cause I'm from the Midwest," Charlene Benoit, Missouri resident, said. "The visit was supposed to be just a routine little pass-through, but then we got stuck in the storm."
"I saw two semi-trucks flip over on the highway right in front of me. That's an experience I won't forget," Hernandez added.
"Staying in my hotel room. Cause, like I said, it does not do this. This is horrible. Horrible," McDonald added.
