PLAQUEMINES PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A jury in Plaquemines Parish has ordered Chevron to pay at least $740 million to restore Louisiana's coastal wetlands.
The legal battle lingered in court for more than a decade, with the jury ruling that Texaco, which was acquired by Chevron in 2001, had contrib
uted to coastal erosion.

Chevron says it plans to appeal the ruling.
The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry released a statement claiming that the verdict only hurts Louisiana, saying "Our state's leading investors in coastal restoration those with both the expertise and financial resources to make a real impact are now being driven away."
