Several inches of snow and freezing rain blanketed much of the commonwealth Sunday. In Pike County Monday morning, Emergency Management Director Nee Jackson said nearly 1,700 customers were without electricity, but the two main thoroughfares, 23 and 119, were open. “The side roads are the biggest thing. You know, road crews they had – they pulled them off the road yesterday evening, 6:30 somewhere thereabouts, because had several trucks in ditches, and they just weren’t able to keep up. We had extensive amount of freezing rain over the night.” Jackson said there were nearly two dozen calls about downed trees and power lines overnight Sunday, some of which obstructed roads. He said there were no reports of storm-related injuries or deaths, though – and urged folks to stay in place if at all possible. “Just stay off the roads. Give these road crews time to get in and work all these secondary roads. Give the power company time to get in cut, get trees cut, get power restored. So the less traffic we have on the roadways, the better off it’ll be.” Jackson said with more rain and sleet expected, things may get worse before they get better. ** WEKU is working hard to be a leading source for public service, and fact-based journalism.
