AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Several people were forced out of their homes at a southwest Austin apartment complex after one of the units caught fire.
The Austin Fire Department responded to the fire at 6636 West William Cannon Drive around 1 a.m. Monday. That's the address of Lantana Ridge Apartments.
AFD said the fire was accidental and caused by the combustible frame around a fireplace igniting.
The fire at one point was in the wall around the fireplace and in the attic, according to AFD.
One apartment unit had fire damage, one had fire control and water damage, and six units had utilities turned off for the night, per AFD. The fire department said around 15 people were displaced and were assisted by apartment management.
