Suspected DUI crash in Fresno County kills woman, hospitalizes child

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A woman is dead and a child is among others who were hospitalized after a suspected DUI collision in Fresno County Saturday evening, the California Highway Patrol announced.
CHP says around 8:30 p.m. a 24-year-old man was driving a Toyota eastbound on Floral Avenue when he crossed over the center line in an attempt to make a left turn onto Willow Avenue.
As the Toyota entered the westbound lane, investigators report it collided head-on with an oncoming Nissan.
Officers say the Toyota's right front passenger, a 28-year-old woman, was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained critical injuries. She was transported to a local hospital where she died shortly after arriving.

Seated in the back of the Toyota behind that woman was a nine-year-old girl who CHP says sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Toyota was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
Officials report the driver and front passenger in the Nissan were transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
Investigators say the driver of the Toyota was eventually determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol. He will be booked on suspicion of driving under the influence upon release from the hospital.
