ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — While Rochester hasn't seen a ton of snow, if you were to drive east, especially towards the northeastern section of Wayne County, I believe that things would be a bit different there. Although some areas may only see a light dusting of snow or none at all, everyone will feel the bite of the cold northwest wind. Highs will struggle to climb out of the upper 20s, with wind chills making it feel more like the teens across Western New York. The silver lining is that winds will ease later this evening and into the night, offering a brief reprieve. However, they’re expected to pick up again by Tuesday, bringing another round of blustery conditions. 8-Day Forecast The bitter cold and snowy pattern will persist through the middle of the week, fueled by a winter storm system tracking to our south. This system will keep winds flowing in the same cold, northwest direction we've experienced in recent days, delivering more arctic air and a steady stream of lake-effect snow. The good news is the winds will start to subside heading into the overnight hours and into tomorrow. The bad news — they'll make a return Tuesday. pic.twitter.com/XHpKk1hC8N— Leanne Byer (@LeanneByerwx1) January 5, 2025 By Friday, we’ll finally catch a break from the snow, offering a brief reprieve from this wintry stretch. However, attention quickly turns to Saturday, as the latest model guidance suggests the potential for a significant, widespread winter weather event across the Northeast U.S. While it’s still too early to nail down specifics, this system could bring impactful conditions to our region. The hat, gloves, snow boots, scarf and all things winter have made their return out of my closet once again. And I don't think I'll be putting them away any time soon. 🥶 pic.twitter.com/d4Nm0bjKv4— Leanne Byer (@LeanneByerwx1) January 4, 2025 With several days to go, the forecast remains uncertain, and changes are likely as more data becomes available. Stay tuned—we’ll keep a close eye on this developing situation and provide timely updates throughout the week to help you stay prepared.
