Austin Fire puts out north Austin apartment fire

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A north Austin apartment caught fire Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the 11500 block of Metric Boulevard, according to the Austin Fire Department. This is located near the intersection of West Braker Lane and Metric Boulevard.
AFD Shift Commander Eddie Martinez said they got a call about heavy smoke and that a resident was trying to put out the fire with water. The fire was reported to have started on the second floor of a three-story apartment building.

The agency said the fire was upgraded to a second alarm at 3:11 p.m., meaning more fire crews were sent to the scene.
At around 4:07 p.m., the fire was upgraded to a third alarm, according to AFD.
The agency said at 4:16 p.m. that the fire was under control, and there were no injuries. A total of six cats, three dogs and one snake were rescued, according to Martinez.
AFD said a total of 24 apartment units were impacted by the fire and cannot be reoccupied. CapMetro will be transporting residents affected to a shelter, the agency said.
