We've started January with the vast majority of days being below-average in the temperature department. Unfortunately, those looking for any kind of warmth will be hard-pressed to find any. We are also tracking an approaching winter storm. It's biggest impacts will stay south of Fort Wayne, but could cause harsh travel conditions in our southern communities. More on that below. Most see the day dry as clouds continue to glide in. Temperatures are cold. Wear a few extra layers, as although we'll be a little warmer than Saturday, highs only get into the mid-20s. Wind gusts will not be as much of a concern today, but of course, it will still be quite cold outside. It's a good day to sit inside and watch the last week of NFL! Another cold day with highs in the mid-20s. A slight chance for a snow shower exists through the daytime, but many will not see this snow as dry air sits in place for the time being. The better chance of snow, especially to our south, arrives this evening when snow enters the area from south to north. Fort Wayne sees snow showers a bit later, more towards the later parts of the evening. The snow will continue, heavy at times to the south of Fort Wayne, through the overnight, fizzling out after daybreak Monday morning. A few snow showers possible Monday afternoon, mainly south of Fort Wayne.Snow continues into the overnight hours.More snow into Monday morning.Snow showers linger mid-morning on Monday.Starting to quiet down just before daybreak. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect tonight from 7 PM through 10 AM on Monday for Blackford, Grant, and Jay counties. Snow totals will range from 1-4" in the advisory with areas of blowing snow also possible. Travel along I-69, especially south of our area, will become difficult during the snow event. Even further down I-69, bigger impacts from this winter storm will be seen with higher snow amounts. While up to an inch is expected for Fort Wayne, northerly gusts up to 25 mph from this system will create blowing snow and a threat for black ice, especially on open country roadways across the area. Most see less or up to an inch of snow. The highest snow totals will be seen in our southern communities.A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Grant, Blackford, and Jay counties tonight through Monday morning. Confidence overall in this system has improved, but if the track changes at all, our snow totals could drastically change. We'll update you throughout the day if that occurs. This scenario does not appear to be likely at this time. After this system wraps up on Monday, we'll continue to tap into cold air, and lake effect snow chances Tuesday Night into Wednesday. Temperatures stay in the 20s for the rest of the week. Our next winter weather system to potentially watch will be next Friday. Certainly very far out, but at this time, does bring some snow potential to Fort Wayne. Fingers crossed for you snow lovers out there!
