Wickliffe soon will host its annual Winterfest event at Green Ridge Golf Course. The event is scheduled to take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 18 at 29150 Ridge Road. The city’s annual chili cook-off will take place in conjunction with Winterfest. Those interested in registering may call 440-943-7120 until Jan. 18. According to Mayor Joe Sakacs, the city had 15 entries for the chili cook-off two years ago. However, last year, due to inclement weather, only eight participated. “We need more,” Sakacs said, who will be among the chili cook-off judges. “It is such a cool event. They have so many activities for kids. If there’s snow, there’s sled riding. They have tractor rides games and all kinds of fun stuff.” The Wickliffe Recreation Department's annual Winterfest provides an opportunity for the community to get together and celebrate the season of winter. Hotdogs, hot chocolate, coffee and raffles with giveaways will be available for spectators. “It’s just a really cool environment, good time and really good chili,” Sakacs said. “I can’t believe the chili that Wickliffe residents and others make. We got spicy, not-spicy, super-spicy and every mixture of chili you can imagine.” Chili cook-off registrants do not need to be Wickliffe residents. According to Recreation Director Tim Stopp, Winterfest is an opportunity to get together as a community and celebrate winter. “Trying to get people together is important,” he previously told The News-Herald. “We’ve had everything from 10 degrees to 50 degrees and sunshine. We make modifications and do the best with the weather that we get.”
