The Kalapawai roundabout, located at the intersection of Kalāheo Avenue and Kailua Road will undergo Phase 8 on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

On that day, Kalaheo Avenue exiting the Lanikai area between the bridge and Kalapawai Market will be closed. Drivers will need to detour through the park instead.
Phase 8 is expected to be completed by March 18. Once the phase is completed, the City said they will return to Phase 6 to address utility lines that were discovered during work.
Drivers should expect additional road closures once Phase 6 work begins once again.
According to officials, the federally-funded projects will include new sidewalks, raised pedestrian crossings and new drainage infrastructure to address frequent stormwater ponding.
Residents commuting out of this area of Kailua are advised to allow extra time to get through Kalapawai as extra congestion is expected during construction times.
