Here are the latest weather warnings and advisories ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Well, winter has certainly made its return to Western New York. And I have a sneaking suspicion that colder temperatures will be sticking around for the time being. Within these snow bands, rates of accumulation will surpass 1 inch per hour, making travel hazardous. However, conditions improve significantly just beyond the edges of these bands. This pattern will dominate both Saturday and Sunday, as shifting winds keep the bands in motion. Typically, setups like this result in the heaviest snowfall occurring east of Rochester, particularly along Route 104 into Wayne County. Snowfall amounts will diminish sharply as you move farther south and away from the lake. Conditions will gradually settle down by Sunday afternoon, but the cold air will remain firmly in place across the region. As we head into the first full week of 2025, a quiet weather pattern will take hold. Scattered lake-effect snow showers may linger in some areas, but any accumulation is expected to be minimal—likely no more than a light dusting. Daytime highs will remain chilly, struggling to climb out of the low 20s. These cold temperatures will persist into Tuesday and Wednesday, with lake-effect snow showers continuing to make occasional appearances. While it's too early to pinpoint exact snowfall amounts, early indications suggest they will be light. As new data becomes available, we'll adjust the forecast accordingly. The hat, gloves, snow boots, scarf and all things winter have made their return out of my closet once again. And I don't think I'll be putting them away any time soon. 🥶 pic.twitter.com/d4Nm0bjKv4— Leanne Byer (@LeanneByerwx1) January 4, 2025 Even though "snow showers" may not appear prominently in our 8-day forecast, it’s worth noting that some flurries or light snow could still pop up. However, totals are expected to stay under an inch in most locations. Looking ahead to the weekend, the weather pattern appears largely unchanged. Cold temperatures will dominate, and there’s no sign of a warm-up on the horizon. Expect highs to linger in the low 20s and similar conditions to persist through the week.
