Warrant and jury duty scams persist in Williams County
Jan 04, 2025
WILLIAMS COUNTY, N.D. (KXNET) — A well-known scam has continued to circle around Williams County during the new year, and officials are once again reminding residents to stay safe and smart when receiving unexpected calls.
According to a Facebook post from the Williams County Sheriff's Office, during the scam in question, victims may receive messages that claim they have outstanding warrants or missed jury duty — which often demand financial compensation or personal details to rectify the situation. In some cases, criminals can even use technology to change the number that appears on caller ID, which makes spotting fraudulent calls even more difficult.
