ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Pit celebrated 1,000 games on Friday night and UNM head coach Richard Pitino said it was his favorite. Not only did the Lobos win a fourth consecutive game for the first time this season, but the UNM did it by knocking off Nevada 82-81 in overtime at the buzzer.
With under 20 seconds remaining and New Mexico trailing by one, the Lobos were able to get Nevada in a trap. That led to an errant pass and a steal by Nelly Jr. Joseph.
The ball was then placed in Donovan Dent's hands for the final moments, however Dent fell and rolled the ball to Jr. Joseph. Nelly put up a shot near the free throw line and made the first game winner of his career.
Jr. Joseph led the charge for New Mexico with 20 points and ten rebounds. Mustapha Amzil (20) and Donovan Dent (16) also reached double-figures in scoring for UNM. Full stats.
With the win, New Mexico now sits at 12-3 on the year overall and 4-0 inside of conference play. Up next is a road game at Wyoming on Tuesday.
