GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — It’s been over a week since Greensboro Officer Michael Horan was killed at a Food Lion on Lawndale Drive. Police Chief for the City of Cape May Dekon Fashaw knew Michael Horan when he was in the Coast Guard in New Jersey. “The news just rocked us,” said Fashaw. Pure shock, that’s how Fashaw felt after hearing that his long-time friend, Michael Horan had passed while on duty. “The news just rocked us, it really did. It rocked us probably just as much as it did his own police department. It’s just not the guy that I expected,” said Fashaw. He’s known Horan since 2009, back when both were newer to their careers. Horan was in the Coast Guard and Fashaw was a lieutenant with Cape May Police. “You know working with him here he brought that level of police work, he ramped it up. I don’t know if the guy drank energy drinks all the time or what,” said Fashaw. As Fashaw explains, Horan was the person you want on your team.  “When you work with Mike, you laugh with Mike,” said Fashaw. He says Officer Horan was driven. His mission was to not only serve the community but more importantly his family. “I know what was going through his head at the last minutes I can only imagine. He was a lover, he loved his daughter immensely, his wife his family,” said Fashaw. Chief Fashaw said he had just been texting with Horan about a week before he was killed.
