Brown Wins NonConference Finale

The Brown men’s basketball team (8-5) closed out non-conference play with a 98-57 win over Johnson & Wales (2-9) at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sunday.
“With the different games we’ve played we’ve seen a lot of different guys,” Head Men’s Basketball Coaching Chair Mike Martin ’04 said. “Obviously the constants in Kino Lilly Jr., Aaron Cooley, Landon Lewis, and Lyndel Erold but everyone else has really grown and improved and we’re going to need everyone to be ready for Ivy League play.”
The Bears were in control early on as they opened the game on a 14-2 run through the first 5:25 of the contest. Brown led as much as 15 in the first half.
Kino Lilly Jr. led the way for Brown in the first half with 10 points and six assists, the senior shot 4-8 from the field in the first half. In his first-career start, N’famara Dabo tallied eight points on 4-5 shooting to go along with five rebounds to go along with one block in the first half.
As a team, Brown shot 17-30 from the floor and outscored Johnson & Wales 26-6 in the paint in the opening 20 minutes.
Brown’s largest lead of the game came with 2:40 remaining in the contest as they took a 94-53 lead, 41 points is the largest lead the Bears have had so far this season. The Bears outscored the Wildcats 58-28 in the second half behind eight points from Aaron Cooley and Alexander Lesburt Jr. Brown had 12 players score in the final 20 minutes and recorded 20 total bench points in the second half.
Kino Lilly Jr. led the way for Brown with 16 points and eight assists, N’famara Dabo recorded his first-career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Alexander Lesburt Jr. and David Rochester also scored in double figures with 11 points each, 11 points for Rochester was a career-high.
As a team, Brown shot 37-69 from the floor and 14-34 from three-point range.
Brown will begin Ivy League play on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they travel to Yale. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. inside the John J. Lee Amphitheater on ESPNU. Fans can purchase tickets here.
