LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A massive house fire early Friday morning on Damar Drive has left three people displaced, with significant damage rendering the 9,000-square-foot home unlivable. According to Battalion Chief Kevin Austin of the Lexington Fire Department, all residents managed to escape without injuries. However, crews encountered significant challenges while responding to the blaze. “This is a pretty big house, sets a good way back off the road, the hydrants out here in this area are pretty low gallons per minute, the hydrant here is about 500 gallons per minute. So we had to set up what’s called a water shuttle operation, and crews had to go back and forth to drop off water so they could supply the trucks that are actually flowing the water on the property,” said Battalion Chief Kevin Austin. The fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm due to the size of the home, this brought in additional crews and equipment to combat the flames, with fire trucks lining the street in the early morning hours. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. Categories: Featured, Local News, News Tags: 2 alarm, Firefighters, house fire, Lexington, local news, News
