ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — Capron Park Zoo has announced the passing of female lion Nyalla who died on New Year’s Eve after nearly 20 years at the zoo. Brought to the zoo in July of 2005 with her sister Kayla, both lions went on to have cubs with male lion Ramses in 2008. Both Nyalla and Kayla began to show signs of kidney concerns in 2014 and later on signs of arthritis. Kayla passed in 2020 from chronic kidney disease. Nyalla’s activity was notably decreasing by December of 2024, and on New Year’s Eve she was showing atypical behavior and placed under continuous observation.
