Cold front bringing chilly temps to the Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A cold front is poised to cross the Piedmont later today, ushering in an Arctic blast for the weekend.
It's mostly cloudy this morning, but we'll have partly cloudy skies to enjoy later today. As a cold front slides eastward, conditions will become breezy with sustained winds between 12 and 18 mph. Highs are going to be seasonable, in the upper-40s.
Very cold weather settles in tonight as lows dive into the lower-20s under clear skies.
Saturday will be sunny but very cold, with highs in the upper-30s. A low pressure system is going to be rolling out of Texas this weekend and heading toward the Carolinas. Sunday will be mostly cloudy and milder as a result, with highs in the lower-40s.
Sunday night, rain arrives from west to east. Temperatures in the mountains and foothills of North Carolina will be cold enough to support freezing rain falling overnight. Ice accruals will be less than 0.20", but this will make bridges and overpasses as well as untreated roads slick by Monday morning. In the Piedmont, temperatures are expected to hover in the mid-30s, keeping precipitation a cold rain. Your FOX8 Weather Team will be monitoring the forecast through the weekend...
