LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Mayor Linda Gorton has declared a snow emergency, partially activating the city’s Emergency Operations Center and placing all public safety divisions on 24-hour schedules through Thursday, according to a city announcement.
“I’m putting all hands on deck,” Gorton said in the release. “This emergency declaration fully mobilizes our public safety resources to help residents handle the severe weather we are experiencing.”
While the declaration does not currently prohibit parking on snow emergency routes, Mayor Gorton encouraged residents to avoid parking on these streets to assist with snow removal efforts.
“Residents can help our street crews get the streets cleared by not parking on snow emergency routes,” she said. Snow emergency routes, which are major thoroughfares, are marked with signage.
The mayor’s office also said city offices will be closed on Monday, and there will be no garbage pick as well.
