Richland Co. Council swears in new Chair, Vice Chair

Richland Co., SC (WOLO) — New at 11…. Richland County Council officially elects their new Chair and Vice Chair for the new year.
Thursday evening Councilwoman Jesica Mackey was officially sworn in to serve as the new Chair and Councilman Derek Pugh to hold the position of Vice Chair. The purpose of the role for the Chair and Vice Chair according to County officials is to maintain order during Council meetings, and make the decision as to which items will make it on to agenda.
Both Mackey and Pugh are beginning their second term on the Richland County Council. During Thursday night’s swearing in, Councilwoman Mackey thanked Council for re-electing her saying,
“I appreciate your vote of confidence to serve again as your chair for 2025. I have enjoyed working alongside each of you and look forward to serving alongside our two new
Councilmembers.”
Councilman Pugh also spoke during the special meeting saying,
“I want to thank my colleagues for believing in me and having the faith to allow me to lead as Vice Chair,” Pugh said. “I look forward to us continuing to work hard for the citizens of Richland County.”
