BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Metro Council hosted its inauguration ceremony, swearing in the members that will be serving the capital city for the next four years. "I'm blessed to be a part with these fine folks, and I look forward to working with them. And congratulations to the families again," said Mayor-President Sid Edwards.  New members include District 2 Anthony Kenney and District 7 Twahna P. Harris.  Kenney is 27 years old and one of the youngest council members to be part of the metro council, he hopes this milestone speaks volumes.  "Don’t take no for an answer, break that barrier, take that leap of faith, and be a voice for your community," said Kenney. "We are oftentimes leaving behind so many young people who are leaving Baton Rouge upon graduation because they don't see opportunity in our community. So I hope I'm some beacon of light." He emphasized that he is ready to address serious challenges like the need to push for economic development, grocery stores and programs that will shape future generations.  "It's a new chapter, I’m very elated to be able to represent such a historic community. I tell people District 2 did something historic electing me to this role, they are sending out a signal to the rest of Baton Rouge that we are ready to move our community forward," said Kenney. Harris has served as former District 7 Lamont Cole's legislative aide, she is grateful for her new role. "I look forward to the coming weeks where we roll out what our agenda is for District 7 for the next four years and the issues that we're going to tackle and address," she said.  Sid Edwards gets sworn in as Mayor-President for East Baton Rouge Parish As her term starts, Harris sends out a message to those in District 7. Noel said he is looking forward to working as a team. "I see in this role is to serve you all. It's another level of service to each one of you to make sure that you can serve all of your constituents to the best of your ability," he said.  Latest News Baton Rouge Metro Council members get sworn in for new four-year term Sid Edwards gets sworn in as Mayor-President for East Baton Rouge Parish Cinemark running $5 'Bring Your Own' popcorn bucket deal Community remembers NOLA terror victim Tiger Bech at Moncus Park memorial service How to adjust your budget if you're unemployed
