GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - As usual, New Year's Day brought a wave of gym-goers to the Greater Green Bay YMCA West location. “Oh yes it’s nuts in here, January and sometimes February but it kind of drops off after there," trainer Asia Snyder said. “Day 1, right away, and then the start of every week, Mondays, Tuesdays, it’s crazy.” Brown County awards $250,000 grant to Green Bay Public Market This year, Snyder is just hoping that the influx of people working out lasts. She says that having expectations that are possible to meet is an important first step in staying committed to a New Year's resolution. “Creating achievable goals that are realistic and having them come in at specific times and making sure that they stick to it by being their accountability partner for every step of the way,” Snyder said. “One day at a time, don’t go too big too quickly, start just with one or two things and start building up your routine from there.” Little Suamico resident Rebecca Agamaite says avoiding injury is her priority so she can stay on track. “Asia’s helped me make sure I’m not doing anything that would put my body in injury mode, and she helped me work through a flare-up. It’s been awesome and I’ve enjoyed it,” Agamaite said. “It was really important to me to not injure myself, I’m recovering from some injuries, so I got involved with a trainer here.” Agamaite wanted to get a head start on her resolution and has been coming to the YMCA with Snyder for a few weeks. “I wanted to get ahead of the New Year’s resolutions push, so I didn’t want to be one of the people that quit halfway through January," Agamaite said. “Commit and find out what you’re why is, you don’t want to be doing it just because somebody told you to have a New Year’s resolution to be more healthy. What you should do is put some meaning behind it.” Center Josh Myers named 2024 Packers’ Ed Block Courage Award winner Suamico resident Pamela Evenson has been working out at the 'Y' for decades and welcomes the added guests. She says it is important to make friends at the gym so that you have an added reason to keep coming back. "There’s a good crowd here today," Evenson said. “We’re all trying to get fit and have a good time. It’s good for you mentally and physically. It’s not necessarily a competition between everybody, it’s motivating each other is really what it’s about. You’re motivating your friends to keep coming and do the best they can do.”
