WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- With the community's help as well as the volunteers, the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) announced that dozens of dogs were adopted and over 100 dogs went into foster homes. Days before the New Year, HRA reached its maximum capacity with 200 dogs in its care. As a result, the shelter urgently began searching for fosters and forever families for 100 dogs. On Jan. 1, the shelter announced 135 new fosters came forward and 44 dogs went home to their new families. Brandywine Valley SPCA to oversee animal control services in DC "This gives us some much-needed time to coordinate transfers, knowing that some dogs will return from short-term foster care. While the work never truly ends, our team feels an immense sense of hope and excitement. Despite being short-staffed, the patience and compassion from our community made all the difference," said Mia Navedo-Williams, with the HRA.
