NYPD presence increased at Trump Tower, Times Square after attacks in New Orleans, Las Vegas

(The Hill) - New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) said there will be a heightened security presence in Times Square and at Trump Tower following the two deadly attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas on New Year's Day.
“After the attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas, @NYPDPC and I have been in constant communication,” Adams wrote in a Thursday post on the social media platform X.
“While there are no immediate threats to our city at this time, out of an abundance of caution, we have heightened security and have increased NYPD presence at relevant locations, including at Trump Tower and in Times Square.”

Fifteen people were killed on New Year’s day after a man plowed his car into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans while a Tesla Cybertruck explosion took place outside the Las Vegas Trump International Hotel on the same day.
Local and federal authorities began investigating both incidents as terror attacks.

Both suspects accused of the deadly crimes used Turo, a rental car app, to book vehicles they did not own.
While authorities continue to investigate whether there is a link between the two attacks, lawmakers have condemned the violent start to 2025.
“2025 quickly took a tragic turn in New Orleans,” Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) wrote in a post on X.
“Instead of waking up to a Happy New Year, we are grieving the loss of innocent lives and praying for all those who have been injured.”
“Our city, state, and country are hurting,” he continued. “I want to thank our law enforcement officers who ran towards danger to protect lives. May our collective New Year’s resolution be to spread love in the face of evil.”
Adams has encouraged New Yorkers to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, directing them to report any unusual circumstances to the New York Police Department.
