Fire crews respond to large fire on Suffolk landfill

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to a large fire on top of a landfill Thursday morning.
According to officials, just after 5 a.m., crews were dispatched to the 100 block of Bob Foeller Drive for reports of a two-alarm fire.
While enroute to the scene on Route 58, fire crews said smoke and flames were visible.

The scene remains active, and crews are currently operating on the nearby hill in an effort to suppress the fire. No injuries have been reported at this time.
Suffolk Fire Chief Barakey told 10 On Your Side he does not believe the smoke should impact residents in the area.
