Avon man accused of taking his children with gun, driving recklessly

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — An Avon man faces weapon charges after he allegedly took his children from Steuben County and drove recklessly with them in his vehicle.
On December 25, 2024, the Livingston County 911 Center was contacted by Steuben County about a domestic incident. They said 34-year-old Russell Hamilton took his two children after displaying a handgun. After receiving information about the suspect and vehicle, deputies began to search through Dansville.
The Livingston County Sheriff's Office found the vehicle a short time later on Sonyea Road in Groveland, which was driving recklessly over 100 miles per hour.
Deputies identified the driver as Hamilton. They also found two children in the backseat, who were unharmed, and they recovered a pair of brass knuckles and a revolver.
Hamilton was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and vehicle and traffic violations.
He was arraigned at the Livingston County Jail before being released.
