FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The California Highway Patrol will be "out in full force" during their maximum enforcement period on New Year's Eve to get everyone home safely for the new year.
“Highway patrol and allied agencies are going to be out in full force with zero tolerance this New Year's Eve,” said Mike Salas with the California Highway Patrol
Officers are looking for impaired driving, speeding, and distracted drivers.
Salas says there is no excuse to get behind the wheel while under the influence.
“Along with being locked up for New Year's, there's a fine that can range from 10 to 15 thousand dollars. You can lose your license, your cars gonna get taken from you, you also run the risk of hurting yourself or someone else,” Salas said.
Drivers will also have to be on the lookout for fog which can severely limit visibility. Over the last week the National Weather Service in Hanford has issued several dense fog advisories for the valley.
“It can form in isolated pockets, we might not have an advisory out but it's something to look out for especially this time of year," said Meteorologist Emily Wilson with the National Weather Service.
