Carr led all scorers with 14 points. Amari Williams, Otega Oweh and Koby Brea all scored a baker’s dozen. Both Carr and Brandon Garrison had five rebounds. The latter led the team is assists with five.
Kentucky forced a season high 23 turnovers and scored 33 points off of them.
“I thought we were brilliant to start the game defensively. We just turned the ball over three times in the first 90 seconds. I think we had five turnovers which I think ties our best or maybe one better than our best this season,” said Head Coach Mark Pope. “They were motivated by aggressiveness. I was really proud of their focus and not swinging too wide on the defensive end. They were really focused and I thought that was great.”
Carr’s Big Night
The stellar night for the Graduate Student was capped off by Pope persuading him to have his new fiancée, Genevieve, join him for an introduction to Solid Blue fans during the post game media availability. Andrew and his future wife obliged and the pair got in front of the cameras for a quick hello.
Carr popped the question over the Christmas break and was all smiles as he answered questions about the new SEC slate to his other half.
“In a couple of our games we came out slower in the first half and responded in the second half,” said Carr. “It’s always something we’re thinking about trying to find better ways to be on top of it.”
The Conference Awaits
Florida comes to Lexington for the SEC opener for both teams on Saturday January 4 at 11 a.m. The sixth ranked Gators are undefeated with a 13-0 record.
For many of Kentucky’s players, this challenge is a new one in their careers. But, Carr is optimistic that his team will use the tough schedule to prepare them for greater things.
“I’m super excited about the gauntlet that we have in front of us,” said Carr. “The league is super, super talented and for us to be as prepared as we possibly can to go our there and win a national championship that’s what this league is going to do for us.”
