Driver dies in fiery New Orleans East crash: NOPD

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a crash in New Orleans East that claimed a man's life.
According to officers, around 11 p.m. on Dec. 30, they were alerted of a vehicle fire in the 26000 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

An investigation revealed a driver lost control of their vehicle, and crashed into a tree resulting in the car catching fire with them inside.
The driver was pronounced dead on the scene, according to NOPD.
No further details are available at this time. The Orleans Coroner's Office will release the person's identity after an autopsy is done and the family is notified.
