WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) — A woman is in critical condition after her husband allegedly hit her in the head with a hammer repeatedly. Westerly Police Chief Paul Gingerella said 72-year-old Robert Kaczynski called 911 and told police he had attacked his wife with a hammer following an argument on Sunday. ALSO READ: Man charged after tractor-trailer overturns on Conn. highway When officers arrived on scene, Kaczynski was reportedly standing in front of the Passapataug Avenue home with his hands in the air, covered in blood. Gingerella said officers then found the victim who had visible injuries to her face and head. The victim told officers that her husband hit her with a hammer. She also said that while waiting for first responders to arrive, her husband continuously returned to hammer her in the head. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious bodily injuries.
