Barbecue coals ignite garbage can, spread to Suffolk home

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- Discarded barbecue coals ignited in a garbage can and spread to the side of a home in Suffolk on Sunday evening.
At approximately 6:10 p.m., Suffolk Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the 4400 block of Coltrane Avenue in reference to a residential structure fire.
Upon arrival at around 6:15 p.m., crews found active fire showing from the side of the two-story detached home.

The fire originated in a garbage can and caught the fence on fire. The heat from the garbage can and fence resulted in the side of the home catching on fire.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and prevented extension into the structure. The fire was placed under control at around 6:20 p.m.
There were no injuries or displacements reported.
