Spotty snow showers return to northern New Mexico Friday
Dec 26, 2024
Another round of spotty rain and snow showers will move through northern New Mexico Friday. Much warmer weather returns this weekend.
A band of light rain and snow is moving east across New Mexico Thursday afternoon. This is part of a cold front that is leaving temperatures cooler today across the western half of the state. This will continue to bring in spotty showers and higher elevation snow into eastern New Mexico through Thursday evening. Skies will clear overnight bringing cold temperatures, but clouds begin moving in again Friday morning.
Another weak weather disturbance will bring more spotty rain and snow showers to southern Colorado and northern New Mexico through the day Friday. A couple inches of additional snowfall will be possible in the northern mountains, with light snow possible in the upper Rio Grande Valley as well. Temperatures will stay cooler across northern New Mexico, while the southern half of the state will begin a warming trend. Winds will also be breezy to locally windy across the state Friday afternoon.
Drier and sunnier weather returns Saturday with some lingering breezy winds. A significant jump in high temperatures will move in Saturday afternoon with even warmer temperatures on Sunday. Stronger westerly winds develop Monday afternoon. The higher winds may keep temperatures a couple degrees cooler than Sunday, but still well-above average for the end of December.
A strong cold front will move into New Mexico Monday night. This will bring a sharp cooldown into the state as we head into the New Year.
