MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A woman is facing a long list of charges after she allegedly took Tennessee State Troopers on a high-speed chase in a stolen car earlier this month. Jibria Smith, 31, was arrested and charged with DUI, assault on a first responder, aggravated assault, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, theft of motor vehicle, evading arrest and a long list of traffic offenses. She also had active warrants on theft and drug charges. Smith is currently in Jail East on $107,500 bond, according to jail records. The chase started Dec. 18 when a trooper spotted a Ford Fusion matching the description of a stolen car parked on Tulip Poplar Drive near Hickory Hill Road, records state. As he checked the tags and called for backup, a woman inside the car jumped into the drivers' seat and sped off at high speed. Troopers turned on their lights but were unable to stop her. As she sped away, the woman's car hit the front door of one of the troopers' vehicles, pinning his leg and body inside the car. The trooper pulled out his service weapon and fired eight shots at the car as it sped out of the apartment complex onto Knight Arnold Road. The Ford Fusion struck a sign at Kirby and Highway 385, and became disabled in a ditch. When a trooper approached, the woman in the Fusion backed up, then accelerated out of the ditch and onto Mt. Moriah, where she allegedly drove into oncoming traffic with sparks flying from a deflated front tire. The chase led onto Hickory Hill Road, where the driver nearly hit a pedestrian before troopers were able to stop her in the parking lot of a convenience store on Hickory Hill. Smith was the only person in the car. Police said she was shaking when they took her into custody. A trooper stated in a report that she showed signs of being under the influence of a narcotic. Smith is currently in Jail East on $107,500 bond, according to jail records. The trooper who was pinned was taken to a hospital with non-critical injuries. The Ford Fusion had been stolen in Memphis, troopers said.
