(KRON) -- A theft of the Danville Police Department’s bait bike on Christmas Eve led officers to uncover more stolen property in the possession of the suspects, according to authorities. The bait bike, which is equipped with a GPS tracker and used by authorities to catch thieves in the act, was positioned in downtown Danville when the police department received an alert of activity at 4:05 p.m. Responding officers tracked the bike to a green Ford Ranger which was traveling southbound on Interstate 680. Man dies in Oakland fire while getting family out of house During a traffic stop, police located the bike in the back of the pickup truck, Danville PD said. According to police, other stolen goods, including a new Ryobi lawnmower, were also recovered. The suspects, who allegedly had narcotics in their possession, were all arrested and booked into jail. (Danville Police Department) The arrests come shortly after a previous incident involving the police’s bait bike. On Dec. 16, a man was arrested and booked into jail for grand theft after allegedly stealing the “strategically placed” bait bike, according to Danville PD. “The hope is the thieves will target our bike and not a residents,” police said. Authorities advise bicycle owners to use two locks for more security, lock up bikes in busy areas, secure both the frame and the wheels in the lock and use security bolts for quick-release components.
