Manitowoc man involved in area youth sports arrested for child pornography

MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) - A 47-year-old Manitowoc man was arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography in mid-December, and authorities are working to identify potential victims.
According to a release, on December 11, 2024, the Manitowoc Police Department executed a search warrant on the 1300 block of Kellner Street in Manitowoc. The search warrant was based on a tip from the Wisconsin Department of Justice that an individual was in possession of child sexual abuse materials, also known as child pornography.

The tip received was that a suspect had allegedly uploaded an image to an internet search engine attempting to search for similar type images. The file was reviewed by investigators and confirmed to be child pornography.
During the search warrant, numerous electronic devices had been seized. Subsequent forensic analysis located a large number of similar-themed images and videos of child pornography in the approximate 12-14 age range.
Based on these recovered images, Steven J. Wester, 47, was taken into custody and booked into the Manitowoc County Jail for possession of child pornography.
The Manitowoc Police Department says the intent of the media release is to identify any other potential victims of Wester's alleged crimes.

Through the investigation, it has been determined that Wester was involved with youth sports in the area. He had also previously been investigated for similar concerning behavior.
