MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Brother Juniper's hosted its free annual Christmas feast, drawing in a big crowd.
The popular breakfast spot in the University area, opened its doors to those in need. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., people lined up to enjoy a free Christmas feast.
The restaurant's owner, Jonathan Koplin, says this is their way of giving a gift to the city on Christmas Day.
“It’s been a tradition in our family, before we open up our gifts or we have our Christmas dinner," Koplin said. "We take care of those who need it first. This restaurant has always been about food, family, and the community in Memphis.”
His wife, Pauline, shared what warms her heart the most about this event.
“The best feeling is seeing everyone together at a special time like our Lord: incarnation day. The joy on people’s faces and the people that are helping, the satisfaction that they get out of giving up themselves as well.”
Their son Patrick is the mastermind behind this event, making sure everything runs smoothly.
“It’s a blessing to have the opportunity to give back to the community the best way I can think of doing that is feeding people for me. That’s the best way of giving back on Christmas,” he said.
Brother Juniper's has been hosting this free Christmas feast for years. Milton Magee says for over a decade, he’s made eating at Brother Juniper's a tradition.
“This is the part of Christmas that I look forward to the most. I’ve been coming over here for probably 15 years. It’s what I look forward to every Christmas morning,” Magee said.
