(KRON) -- Officers deployed a taser in the arrest of a suspect who allegedly stole from Safeway after he became aggressive, according to the San Mateo Police Department. San Mateo PD got a call around 4:42 p.m. on Tuesday regarding a theft from the Safeway on the 1600 block of South El Camino Real.
Responding officers were told by an employee that the suspect had left the store. Employees provided officers with a description of the suspect and the items he'd taken from the store.

After a brief search, officers located the suspect walking near the intersection of 17th Avenue and Palm Avenue. As officers approached him, the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Jose PirirBoch of San Mateo, allegedly swung a metal chain at an officer before running north on Palm.
Officers pursued him. As they caught up to him, police say PirirBoch stopped running and tried to physically fight officers. Due to what police called his "aggressive and combative behavior," officers deployed a taser to stop PirirBoch.
He was safely detained in handcuffs and medically evaluated after being tased. Once he was medically cleared, officers took PirirBoch to San Mateo County Jail and booked him for theft with prior conviction, felony resisting arrest, and resisting arrest.
