San Diego MTS increasing service for Holiday Bowl; Christmas schedule released

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- San Diego buses and Trolleys are increasing service for the highly anticipated Holiday Bowl taking place on Friday, and the MTS schedule for Christmas Day has been released, along with information on a promotion where you can bring a guest to ride for free with you over the holiday.
The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) announced this week it will be operating on a Sunday service schedule on Christmas Day, and its Friends Ride Free holiday promotion will also be in effect so passengers can bring a guest for free.
Matchup set for 2024 DIRECTV Holiday Bowl at Snapdragon Stadium
The 45th annual DIRECTV Holiday Bowl kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday. In the days leading up to the big game, there will be several events happening like the Snapdragon Bowl Bash, the Holiday Bowl Parade, the Game Day 5K Run/Walk, tailgate parties, and more.
Christmas Day service
On Christmas Day, MTS will be operating on a Sunday service schedule on Christmas Day.
All Trolley lines will be operating every 30 minutes. MTS announced there will be no service on Rapid Express Routes 280 or 290 and Rural Routes 888, 891, 892 and 894.
Holiday travelers can take direct connections to the San Diego Airport through Route 992, adjacent to Santa Fe Depot, or the San Diego Airport Flyer from the Old Town Transit Center.
MTS support service offices, like MTS information and trip planning, the PROTO Support Center and the Transit Store and Customer Service offices, will be closed on Christmas Day and will reopen on Dec. 26.
With the Friends Ride Free holiday promotion, paying adult passengers can bring one guest to ride with them for free only on Christmas Day.

2024 Holiday Bowl service
Thousands of football fans are expected to be in San Diego and at the Snapdragon Stadium as Syracuse vs. Washington State go head to head at the 45th annual DIRECTV Holiday Bowl from 5 to 11 p.m. on Friday and at the fireworks show following the game.
Due to the anticipated large crowds, MTS has announced Green Line and Copper Line Trolley service will be increased Friday night.
Pre-game and post-game service will be available for those that want to skip traffic and parking at Snapdragon Stadium.
Pre-Game Service
Copper Line: Regular Trolley service arriving at El Cajon Transit Center every 15 minutes or better.
Green Line: Regular Trolley service arriving at Stadium Station every 15 minutes or better.Post-Game Service
Copper Line: Extended 15-minute Trolley service in both directions until 10:40 p.m.
Green Line: Extended 15-minute Trolley service in both directions until 9:30 p.m., with additional trips in both directions as needed until crowds diminish.

Those attending the game can avoid paying for parking by using MTS’ free park & ride lots throughout the Trolley system:
Old Town Transit Center (Blue and Green Line, 400+ free parking spots)
Grossmont Transit Center (Green and Orange Line, 220 free parking spots)
El Cajon Transit Center (Green and Orange Line, 400+ free parking spots)
Amaya Drive (Green and Orange Line, 236 free parking spots)

In addition to the free transportation options and Holiday Bowl events, the first 10,000 fans at Snapdragon Stadium for the Holiday Bowl will get free tickets to SeaWorld San Diego.
