Preventing Illness During the Holidays
Dec 25, 2024
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Health wants to make sure the only thing you catch this season is holiday cheer.
RIDOH says anyone who plans to travel or attend gatherings this holiday season should take steps to prevent the spread of common respiratory viruses.
“If you plan to see people for New Year’s or attend a holiday party with family, friends, or colleagues and you start to feel sick, stay home to avoid putting overs at risk,” says Director of Health Jerry Larkin, MD.
It is recommended that if you have flu-like symptoms such as a stuffy nose, sore throat or fever, to stay home for at least 24 hours after your symptoms start getting better and the fever is gone. When checking your temperature, it is also advised to measure it without the use of fever-reducing medicines. It is also recommended to avoid contact with others when feeling ill, especially older adults and people with underlying health conditions.
The Rhode Island Department of Health has a list of more information about preventing the spread of viruses here.
