DENVER (KDVR) — A man wanted by the Denver FBI office in the deadly shooting of a minor on a southwestern Colorado reservation was arrested on Christmas Eve.
23-year-old Jeremiah Hight, a member of the Ute Mountain Tribe, was arrested just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday on top of a mesa west of Oljato, Utah, by the Navajo Police Department K-9 Unit and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Division of Drug Enforcement.

The Denver FBI office was offering a $10,000 reward for information that led to Hight's arrest and conviction. He was wanted for the murder of a minor on the Ute Mountain Reservation in Towaoc that occurred earlier in December. Towaoc is the capital of the Ute Mountain Reservation and is located in the southwest corner of Colorado, near Mesa Verde National Park.
Law enforcement began looking for Hight near Oljato on Saturday, noting that Hight has ties to Monument Valley, Utah. The area is about 2 and a half hours from Towaoc. On Tuesday, Hight was taken into federal custody.
According to the FBI, a minor was hit and killed by gunfire targeted at a home in the early morning hours of Dec. 11. A federal arrest warrant was issued for Hight on Thursday when he was charged with murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm during and in relation to crimes of violence.
Authorities have not released any details about what led up to the shooting, and Hight's arrest warrant was sealed.
In a video message after the shooting, tribal chairman Manuel Heart called the shooting “senseless” and urged people to let authorities investigate the shooting rather than retaliate on their own. Heart also said he was working on a resolution to ask the federal government to hire more police officers for the reservation and another to ban shooting within either of the reservation's two communities — Towaoc and White Mesa, Utah.
“We are not going to have any more of these type of events where somebody gets shot,” he said.
